EXPERIENCE
TEACHING:
1995-present: Adjunct instructor of baroque flute, University of North Texas College of Music.
1994-2002: Adjunct instructor of flute, Cameron University Department of Fine Arts, Music Division.
1971-present: Conventional flute instruction of older students.
1990-present: Flute instruction of younger students utilizing the Suzuki Method.
1991-3, 1997: Faculty member, SMU-in-Taos, Harpsichord Workshop/Baroque Performance Institute (Fort Burgwin, N.M., Summer)
1987-1989: Assistant in Suzuki flute group classes, Tarrant County Junior College. Faculty member (beginning and intermediate music theory), 1989 Summer Suzuki Flute Institute at Brookhaven College (Dallas).
1986-1987: Flute instruction with Frisco Public Schools, Everman Public Schools, Bowie Public Schools in Texas. Home-based flute studio.
1983-1985: Teaching fellow in flute performance, North Texas State University (presently UNT).
1982-1983: Substitute music instructor in Lawton, Oklahoma, Public Schools.
1978-1979: Public school general music teacher, Grades 1-12, Geronimo, Oklahoma.
1976-1978: Graduate assistant in theory-composition, Wichita State University. Duties: teaching aural skills, substitute instructor for undergraduate music theory and history classes, assistant to Collegium musicum (conducting, ensemble coaching, harpsichord tuning), preparation of class materials for professors within the department.
PERFORMANCE:
Texas Camerata
Kristin Van Cleve, artistic director. Flutist in chamber music on
historical
instruments presented at various locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth
Metroplex.
Recent performances as part of the Boston Early Music Festival and
concert
engagements in Paris, France.
Orchestra of New Spain
Grover Wilkins, III, artistic director. Flutist in chamber music
and larger choral works on both historical and modern instruments
presented
at Santuario Santa Clarita and other locations throughout the Metroplex
and Southwest.
Texas Bach Choir
Dan Long, artistic director. Flutist in orchestral and choral
works on both historical and modern instruments presented at St.
Mark's
Episcopal Church, San Antonio, and other locations throughout the
greater
San Antonio metropolitan area.
Silver Lining
Lee Lattimore, contractor. Flute chamber music with varying
numbers of other instrumentalists, presenting concerts and recitals in
addition to frequent casual engagements locally.
Symphonic
Frequent freelance orchestral work on both flute and piccolo
throughout the Metroplex; principal flute, University of North Texas
Symphony
and Chamber Orchestras; substitute flutist with Burbank Symphony and
others
while in California; principal flute and second oboe with Lawton
Philharmonic
Orchestra.
ADJUDICATION:
February, 2003: Flute Festival Mid-South, Memphis TN. Responsible for adjudication via cassette tape and CD of flute competitors for masterclass with Wissam Boustany.
May 1996-7, 2000-4; 2006: Texas Flute Festival, Denton, Texas. Responsible for coaching of solo and ensemble literature of 20-30 flute students each year, with decision of exceptional players at the end of each day.
Feb. 1996: Louise B. MacMahon International Music Competition,
Lawton,
Oklahoma.
Responsible for preliminary adjudication via cassette tape of oboe
and flute competitors, and choice of one wind player from each
category,
with two other panel members based on live chamber music performance,
to
proceed on to the final concerto phase of competition.
28 Apr. 1990: Tulsa Area Music Teachers' Assn.. Responsible with two other panel members for awarding of four scholarships and one alternate position. Cash awards were given toward study of the students' instruments at summer music camps.
WORKSHOPS:
June 2004, August 2003, August 2002, June 2000, January 2000, June 1998: Sponsorship, in cooperation with DALLAS/MUSIC, of Suzuki Flute Workshops featuring flutist/teacher Kenichi Ueda .
August 1998: Flute instructor at Magic Flute Workshop, Bellingham, WA.
July 1989: Suzuki Flute Workshop (Brookhaven Community College, Dallas), both as a trainee under Kenichi Ueda and as faculty to teach music theory to children, beginning and intermediate levels.
Feb. 1989: Suzuki Flute Workshop (Austin, Texas), trainee under Kenichi Ueda.
